Search Engine Optimization (SEO) explained
Search engine optimization (SEO) has three working parts. Technical SEO makes sure search engines can reach, render and index your pages. On-page and content work makes each page the best answer to the queries it targets. Authority comes from other credible sites referencing and linking to you.
SEO success is usually measured in rankings, impressions, clicks and the conversions that follow. Search engines report much of this directly through tools like Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
In the AI era, SEO hasn’t been replaced; it has been extended. AEO and GEO build on a site that search engines can already find and trust.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): an example
Fixing a robots.txt rule that blocked product pages, rewriting titles to match what buyers search and earning links from industry publications are all SEO work.
Why it matters for search and AI visibility
SEO remains the foundation of AI visibility: most AI search products retrieve web pages, and pages that can't be found can't be cited.
